Day 1. Broome, Boab Prison Tree, Tunnel Creek, Windjana Gorge

Depart Broome to begin your exploration of the awe-inspiring Kimberley region. Journey on the Gibb River Road, a remote Outback highway that accesses some of the Kimberley’s best scenery. At Windjana Gorge, where sheer cliffs tower above white sands, see the ancient marine fossils embedded in the gorge walls. You may also see freshwater crocodiles lazing on the banks of the Lennard River, which runs through the gorge. We travel to remarkable Tunnel Creek, a 750 metre-long natural tunnel carved through the Napier Range. With torch in hand, we wade through the cool waters to view the wonderful oasis that awaits us on the other side. Continue to Fitzroy Crossing.

Day 2. Geikie Gorge Cruise, China Wall, Halls Creek

Enjoy the morning exploring Geikie Gorge, where annual flooding has created a bleached effect on the sandstone walls. Our unique cruise is guided by a traditional Bunuba landowner. Following the cruise travel the Great Northern Highway to the historic gold mining town of Halls Creek. See the unusual China Wall, formed out of quartz.

Day 3. Purnululu National Park, Echidna Chasm, Bungle Bungle Range

Depart Halls Creek and head for Purnululu National Park. Our journey takes us onto the Spring Creek 4WD track. Hike into Echidna Chasm, a spectacular cleft in the rock massif. Enjoy the unique wilderness experience of staying within the national park without having to rough it.

Day 4. Cathedral Gorge, Beehive Domes

Hike into Piccaninny Creek and spectacular Cathedral Gorge. Walk among the beehive domes, as your guide brings the natural history of the range to life. Learn of bushtucker, bush medicine and the area’s significance to local Aboriginals. There’s time for an optional helicopter flight (own expense). Enjoy drinks and watch the sun set over the domes.

Day 1&2: CBD attractions and laneway culture

Mornings: Catch the free shuttle bus around the city, hopping off at attractions such as the Arts Centre, Queen Victoria Market, Southbank and Federation Square. Or for an iconic Melbourne experience take the Circle City Tram around the city’s major streets and attractions.

Afternoons: Wander Federation Square and the many galleries.

Evenings: Dine in one of the many restaurants lining Little Bourke Street in Chinatown, then head to the hidden laneway bars for a nightcap or the late night coffee and cake that make a night out in Melbourne special.

Melbourne, VIC

Day 3: Yarra River to St Kilda Beach

Morning: Take a walk around the Tan before breakfast at Southbank on the Yarra River. Jump on a river cruise and take in the city river, its bridges and refurbished docklands from the water.

Afternoon: Catch a tram down to St Kilda beach, where you can wander the esplanade, and shop, eat and drink along Fitzroy and Acland Streets. You’ll be agog at the cakes in the windows of Acland St’s world-famous patisseries.

Evening: Head out to Lygon Street for Australia’s biggest selection of Italian restaurants or Johnston Street for Spanish or Indian. On Brunswick Street, you’ll find gourmet pubs, cheap ethnic eateries and lively nightspots where you can dance the night away.

Mornington Peninsula, VIC

Day 4-7: Mornington Peninsula

Take the rental car for a drive and head out to Mornington Peninsula, where you can swim with dolphins and stroll the bay and surf beaches of the historic seaside village of Sorrento. Take in the cliff-top walks, stunning views and million-dollar mansions of Portsea at the tip of the Mornington Peninsula. Pick your own berries and visit wineries and galleries in Red Hill and Main Ridge. Explore the great beaches, wineries and golf course of Flinders before driving back to Melbourne.
